A Class K Resident Permit in Kenya is generally referred to as a Retiree Permit. It is issued to foreign nationals who wish to reside in Kenya without engaging in any form of employment, trade, or profession.
Commonly known as an Ordinary Resident Permit, it is highly exclusive and limited to applicants who can prove they have sufficient funds to support themselves without local income.
Qualification Criteria
To qualify for a Class K permit, an applicant must:
- Age: Be at least 35 years of age.
- Assured Income: Prove an assured annual income of at least USD 24,000.
- Source of Funds: Income must be derived from sources abroad and remitted to Kenya, OR from a pension/annuity payable within Kenya.
- No Employment: Undertake not to accept any paid or unpaid employment or engage in any income-generating activity within Kenya.
- Relevance: Their presence in the country must be considered relevant to Kenya.
Important: If the applicant is not present in Kenya within three months of the permit's issuance, the permit will cease to be valid unless an extension is granted.
Necessary Requirements
To apply, you will need to provide:
- Form 25: Duly filled and signed application form.
- Cover Letter: A detailed letter addressed to the Director of Immigration Services.
- Passport: Copy of the valid National Passport.
- Photos: Two recent passport-size color photographs.
- Financial Proof: Documentary evidence of the assured annual income (USD 24,000+).
- Translations: Any documents in a foreign language must be translated into English by an authorized institution or Notary Public.
- Current Status: Proof of current immigration status if already in Kenya.
Processing Fees
- Processing Fee: A non-refundable fee of KES 10,000 is required at the time of application.
