This is a document issued to a person whose spouse, parent or guardian is lawfully entitled to enter Kenya in accordance to Kenya’s Immigration laws.
Who is qualified to get a Dependant Pass?
The Dependant Pass is issued to persons who are dependants to:
- Kenyan Permit holders.
- A Kenyan citizen.
- A Kenyan Permanent Resident.
- An accredited representative to Kenya of a government of any Commonwealth country.
- An accredited envoy to Kenya of a foreign sovereign state.
- Persons conferred with immunities and privileges under the law.
Note: Gay couples, unmarried partners, and boyfriends/girlfriends do not currently qualify under Kenyan immigration law.
Legal Requirements
According to Kenya’s immigration laws, the immigration officer must be satisfied with the following conditions:
- Maintenance: The dependant depends on the applicant for his or her maintenance.
- Relationship: The dependant is a spouse or child of the applicant or relying on the applicant due to age, disability, or incapacity.
- Income: The applicant has sufficient income to maintain both themselves and the dependant for the duration of the stay.
Application Requirements
- Application Form: Duly signed.
- Cover Letter: Addressed to the Director of Immigration Services.
- Photos: Recent coloured passport photos.
- Passports: Copies of valid national passports of both applicant and dependant.
- Proof of Relationship: Marriage certificates or birth certificates.
- Financial Proof: Evidence of sufficient income.
- Permit Copy: For those applicants holding an immigration permit.
2024 Revised Fee Schedule
The Kenya government revised immigration fees effective April 2024:
- Spouses/Children of Citizens: Revised from KES 5,000/- to KES 20,000/-
- Spouses/Children of Permit Holders: Increased from KES 5,000/- to KES 10,000/-
- Re-Entry Pass: Endorsed on the passport, revised from KES 1,000/- to KES 5,000/- (renewable every 2 years).
Circumstances of Invalidity
A Dependant Pass may become invalid if:
- The dependant ceases to depend on the applicant.
- The applicant is unable to continue maintenance.
- The applicant leaves Kenya permanently.
- The dependant engages in unauthorized employment or business.
- A dependant child attains the age of twenty-one years.
